Fostering Engagement:
Coogs on the Road Summer Tour

The University of Houston Alumni Association and UH Athletics have joined forces to bring the excitement of Cougar pride to fans across the nation with the Coogs on the Road Summer Tour. This initiative aims to connect UH alumni with the University’s Athletics program and Alumni Relations team, fostering a sense of community and school spirit among graduates and supporters.

The Summer Tour kicked off with its first stop in Coppell, Texas, on May 6, where it was met with enthusiasm and high spirits. Alumni in the Dallas-Fort Worth area welcomed the coaches’ caravan with open arms, eager to reconnect and celebrate their alma mater.

Sean Allen, president of the Dallas-Fort Worth Alumni Network, expressed his joy over the event: “This was a great opportunity for alumni in the DFW area to get together and celebrate our university. With Shasta, Sasha and the Cougar pep band in attendance, everyone had a great time!”

Continuing the momentum, the tour made its second stop on May 8 at Landry’s Seafood House in The Woodlands. Both events featured engaging appearances by key figures from UH Athletics, providing alumni with unique and memorable experiences.

Men’s Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson entertained the crowds with humorous anecdotes about his players, while Football Head Coach Willie Fritz shared his vision and plans for the upcoming football season. These personal interactions allowed alumni to gain insight into the Athletics program and foster a deeper connection with the coaches.

In addition to the coaches’ stories, Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations Mike Pedé (’89) provided exciting updates on the University’s future. He highlighted significant milestones, including the Centennial Master Plan and the redesign of Cullen Boulevard in honor of the University’s 100th anniversary. These developments promise to enhance the campus and commemorate UH’s rich history and vibrant future.

The Coogs on the Road Summer Tour offers alumni the chance to engage with University representatives in a more intimate setting, strengthening their bond with the University and each other. These stops are more than just events; they are a celebration of Cougar pride and a testament to the enduring spirit of the UH community.

Our alumni community is strong, and we can’t wait to come together to show our enduring support and passion for the Coogs.”

Jose Betancourt, the president of the San Antonio Alumni Association, is similarly looking forward to the San Antonio stop. “Because of our basketball team's impressive Sweet 16 run and the recent addition of Coach Willie Fritz, we look forward to a bright future for our Athletics.”

As the tour continues, it promises to bring more alumni together, fostering a sense of unity and pride in the University of Houston. Whether through sharing stories, discussing future plans or simply celebrating together, the Coogs on the Road Summer Tour exemplifies the strong and vibrant community of UH alumni.
